Admissions and Tuition

The goal of our admissions process is to help you determine if our school is a good match for your child(ren). Our process provides a detailed exchange of information and encourages you to closely observe our program so that you can make a well-informed decision about applying to our school. Children must be 2 years 9 months old to start at French for Kids. the school year runs from September to June but children can start anytime during the school year as long there is an opening.

The admissions process consists of the following steps:

1) School Visits - One or both parents visit the school without their child to observe the program. You are encouraged to observe for at least 45 minutes or longer to get a good idea about what is offered, the overall “feeling” of our classroom environment and to begin to assess if the program is a good fit for your child.

2) Application Form - If you wish to apply after visiting the school, submit the application form with a $50.00 application fee. Upon receipt of the form, you will be contacted by the school to schedule a parent/child visit if the application is for the following school year. We accept application forms up to 2 years before enrollment year. The application form and fee puts the student on our waiting list.

3) Parent / Child Visit - One or both parents return to the school with their child when the school is not in session. These visits are typically scheduled between 1pm-2pm The visit lasts between 30-45 minutes. The objective of the visit is twofold: a) to determine if the family and school are a good match for each other based on shared expectations and goals for the preschool experience and b) to get a cursory sense of the childʼs current development and temperament through an informal observation of the child interacting with a teacher and playing in the classroom. Children are not formally assessed in any manner.

NOTE: Special arrangements will be made for families who are applying from other countries or states and cannot attend the school visit or parent/child visit within the standard timeframes. In these situations, the school will conduct admissions work by phone and/or e-mail and can offer conditional acceptances based on holding a parent / child visit soon after the family relocates to the area.

4) Admission Decisions - We strive to compose a class that is reasonably balanced between three key criteria: linguistic mix, age, and gender. Applications are accepted throughout the school year and admissions are made on a modified rolling basis. Priority is given to siblings of current and returning families. Maximum enrollment for the school is 20 children aged 2.9 - 5 years old. Most students enter as three year olds and stay for two years. Therefore, we usually have between 8 - 10 openings per year for new students. Given the small size of our school and our limited openings, it is recommended that parents apply as soon as possible during the school year. Once enrollment is full, applicants will be placed on a waiting list and will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.

"Our children developed a sense of value and joy inherent in the feeling of connection to others whom they came to love as their own family. This even more than their skill-based preparedness, we feel, made the transition to Kindergarten easy and exciting for both of them."
